Gathering
People come together around tables, texts, songs, memories, questions and shared hopes.
A gathering comes alive when people become present to one another. The atmosphere changes. Listening deepens. Familiar stories open in new ways. A collection of individuals begins to discover a shared life.
I have spent much of my work creating and holding spaces of this kind: in communities, classrooms, places of worship, retreats, public conversations and interfaith encounters.
Each gathering has its own character. My task is to listen for it, help people recognise it, and shape a process through which it can grow.
Building Community
Community grows through shared purpose, meaningful participation and a sense of responsibility for one another.
It also grows through meals, music, learning, celebration and the small repeated practices through which people begin to feel at home.
I work with communities at different stages of their lives. Some are taking their first steps. Others are entering a new chapter. Some are seeking clearer purpose, wider participation or a renewed relationship between leaders and members.
Together, we explore the community’s story, its values, its gifts and the life it wishes to create.
Meeting Across Traditions
My interfaith journey began in Israel/Palestine and continued in South Africa.
Over the years, I have worked with Jews, Christians, Muslims, traditional African practitioners and people whose spiritual lives cross worlds.
I value encounters in which people speak from the depth of their traditions and listen with genuine curiosity to the lives of others. Each person brings a language, a history, a faith and a way of understanding the world.
Through conversation, learning, prayer, music and shared action, these encounters can become relationships. Relationships can become trust. Trust can become cooperation and friendship.
Facilitation and Consultation
I work with communities, organisations and leadership groups seeking clarity, connection and movement.
This may include:
- Community vision and identity
- Leadership development
- Organisational culture
- Restoring communication and trust
- Interfaith and intercultural encounter
- Institutional transition
- Ethical reflection
- Retreats and community processes
- Public conversations, panels and conferences
I bring my experience as a rabbi, educator, chaplain, community leader and peacebuilder. I begin by listening: to the people, to the history of the organisation and to what is emerging in the present moment.
From there, we shape the process together.
Retreats and Shared Experiences
Some gatherings need time.
A retreat allows people to step into a different rhythm and pay attention to what usually remains beneath the surface. Learning, prayer, silence, music, meals, storytelling and conversation can all become part of the experience.
I help design and facilitate retreats, study gatherings, spiritual programmes and communal experiences shaped around the people involved and the purpose that brings them together.
Come Together
Perhaps you are forming a community, guiding an organisation through transition, planning a retreat or bringing people together across religious and cultural traditions.
Tell me who is gathering and what you hope to create.
That’s a good place to start.
